Outlook on Life

Posted on

Today I have the pleasure of driving back to Salisbury.  My travel route consists of 206 to 287 to the Jersey Turnpike (fun) to Rt 13 to Rt 1 back to Rt 13 (even more fun).  Now most people hate this drive for two reasons, the Jersey Turnpike and Rt 13.  The Jersey Turnpike is never fun to drive on, and us Jersey people are ruthless, we don’t really accept outsiders on our roads, and then Rt 13 is tedious because it is two lane traffic filled with speed traps and more stop lights than I have ever seen.

When most people drive this route they are miserable, my dad especially, but I take a different look at it.  I use this travel time to become a rock star (I wish I was kidding).  I sing my lungs out the whole way home & back.  It is a stress relief!  Music is proven to lower depression rates and helps with a whole bunch of other stuff that I will give you, my reader, the pleasure of looking up.

I will never forget when I came home a  couple of years ago around Christmas time and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and everyone around me looked miserable.  So to brighten the mood I reached in my back seat and grabbed a Santa hat (don’t ask me why I had one in my back seat, I am not sure) and proceeded to put the hat on and sing Christmas Carols, nice and loud.  The guy driving next to me started laughing at me, and I waved and continued to sing.  Next thing I know he was rolling down his window requesting that I play Jingle Bells next.

What’s my point? Life is all about how you view it.  I tend to make everything a positive, I love being happy, and I love making other people happy!  It was awesome when the driver next to me started laughing because I knew at that moment he was not thinking about how much traffic we still had to sit in, but he was thinking about the goofball college student who seemed to be having the time of her life singing Christmas Carols.

I live by the sayings don’t make a mountain out of a mole-hole, and life is all about how you look at it.  For one day I encourage you all to try and be optimistic about things that may seem negative, let me know how it goes.
